What is a BMS, and why does it matter?

A Battery Management System (BMS) is the brain of your lithium battery. It monitors voltage, temperature, and charge levels to keep the pack safe and balanced. Eco Battery’s advanced, in-house BMS prevents overcharging, over-discharging, and overheating—protecting your battery and maximizing performance and lifespan.

How do LiFePO4 batteries perform in cold temperatures?

Cold temperatures can significantly reduce battery performance. However, lithium iron phosphate (LiFePO4) batteries have better capacity and voltage retention in cold conditions compared to lead-acid batteries.

Why can’t lithium batteries be charged below 32°F (0°C)?

Charging below freezing can cause lithium plating inside the cells, which permanently damages the battery. That’s why Eco Battery BMS automatically blocks charging as a protection when internal temperatures are below 32°F.

Do I need a heated lithium battery for winter use?

If you plan to use and charge your battery in freezing conditions, a self-heating lithium battery is recommended. It warms itself before charging, protecting the cells and ensuring reliable performance year-round.

SHOP HEATED BATTERIES

Will cold weather shorten the lifespan of my lithium battery?

Not if used properly. While extreme cold reduces performance temporarily, it doesn’t harm the battery as long as charging is prevented below freezing. Heated lithium batteries offer enhanced protection and can prolong cycle life.

What's a BMS and why is it important?

A Battery Management System (BMS) is essentially the “brain” of a lithium battery. It’s an electronic control unit that constantly monitors and manages the battery’s performance to keep it safe, efficient, and long-lasting. Not all BMS are created equal. Eco Battery has built its own from the ground up, with proprietary hardware and software to deliver the most advanced BMS in the golf cart space.

    What it does:
  • Monitors the voltage and temperature of each cell
  • Balances cells so they charge and discharge evenly.
  • Prevents overcharging that can damage cells or create safety risks.
  • Prevents over-discharging (which can shorten battery life)
  • Protects against overheating or extreme cold
  • Shuts down the battery if unsafe conditions are detected
What is Power Save Mode and why is it important?

The Eco Battery Power Save Mode (also known as sleep/standby/low-power mode) reduces energy drain when the battery is not in active use. Eco Battery pioneered Power Save technology for golf carts, providing essential protection during storage. This mode includes automatic and adjustable power-off timers for convenience and safeguarding for your battery.
