How does a heated lithium Eco Battery work?
Eco Battery's auto-heating battery uses an internal heating element controlled by the Battery Management System (BMS). When the temperature is too low and charging voltage is applied, the heater activates automatically — no external pads, switches, or timers required. Once the cells reach the optimal temperature, the battery will charge as usual.
Can I charge a lithium battery in freezing temperatures?
No, STANDARD lithium batteries should not be charged below 32°F (0°C), as this can cause lithium plating and permanent damage. Our HEATED lithium batteries address this issue by warming the cells before charging begins, thereby making them safe for use in cold climates.
Can lithium batteries be used in freezing temperatures?
Yes. Standard lithium batteries can safely discharge in cold weather down to -4°F (-20°C), but their performance is reduced, often resulting in shorter run times until the battery warms up. With an Eco Battery heated model, if charged right before use, the cells warm themselves before charging, creating a warmer starting battery temperature that performs better.
Do I need special equipment to heat my battery?
Eco Battery Heated Lithium: No extra equipment needed. The smart Battery Management System (BMS) automatically controls heating — just plug in and charge. Standard Lithium: Requires add-ons like external heating pads, insulated blankets, or moving batteries indoors to stay operational.
Does the cold affect the lifespan of a lithium battery?
No — when used correctly, cold weather won’t damage the battery. Extreme cold may temporarily reduce performance, but as long as the battery isn’t charged below freezing, it won’t cause harm. Self-heating lithium batteries take it a step further by protecting against low-temperature charging and extending the overall cycle life.
